Spots

Smartphones, e-books and tablets killing newspapers, books, and magazines.
Based on an article I read a while back about this, it described smartphones and tablets assassinating print media. Unfortunately I don't remember where I read it...

Blake Griffin

Blake Griffin for Double Scribble's In the Paint gallery show in Boston. The theme of the show is basketball and many other artists participated as well. The opening reception took place this past Friday. I decided to do an illustration of Blake because, simply put, he gets a lot of points in the paint (though a lot of them maybe through dunks, and they call the team Lob City for a reason).

New Work

Illustration for The Chronicle, about the term Arab Spring, and how it is not an accurate phrase for the ongoing conflict.

Illustration for The Boston Globe book review, on two books by Elinor Lipman. The concept is Elinor helping a character from her fiction book out into the real world. The color version ran online, the black & white in print.

DMC

The first time I saw DeMarcus Cousins play, I was wondering, 'Why does he always look so angry?' The commentators helped answer that, I think pretty much in every Sacramento Kings game the announcers always mention DMC and his attitude problems. He's still a great player though.

Blue

I was doing thumbnails and thought the bubble part looked like a head. Since Alan Greenspan is the face of the whole housing bubble situation, that is how this image came to be.

Diving, or flopping, in order to draw fouls or penalties is unsportsmanlike and embarrassing. Unfortunately it is rampant in sports such as hockey, basketball (the NBA just introduced an anti-flopping rule this year), and soccer.

Broke

This illo is about NBA players and money management. Every so often an article about this topic pops up. Stories of NBA players blowing all their money during their career and ending up broke after retiring, or lists of the most financially irresponsible players. It's sad but interesting to read about.
